Fall 2010 meeting
Greetings, AATF-Houston! Bonne rentrée! I hope this message finds you all doing well and off to the start of another great year. We are planning a fun and interesting fall meeting. Save the date: we will be meeting at the Alliance Française de Houston (427 Lovett in the Montrose area, http://www.afdehou.org/) on Saturday, October 2 at 1:30pm. Please make plans to attend, as, in addition to the usual fare of our own unique Houston area French teacher conviviality, great information, and useful professional development, we will be hosting a special ceremony to award our latest Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes académiques, Monsieur David Timms! There will be a wine and cheese reception after the meeting.
See you on October 2 !
Warmest regards, Georges Detiveaux, President, AATF-Houston

Formation! A vos calendriers!

by Federico García Lorca
in French and Spanish with English surtitles
The House of Bernarda Alba, Federico García Lorca's last play, was written in 1936, a few months before Lorca was jailed and executed. Besides being one of the great 20th century playwrights, Federico García Lorca was an outstanding poet. Wishing to honor his writing genius, the play will include selected poems recited in Spanish from "Romancero Gitano" by a special guest, actor Antonio Mazu, who will portray the role of Federico García Lorca. French sculptor Véronique Chalandar is coming from Paris at the invitation of Et Voilà Théâtre, to create a scenic design inspired by the feminine characters of this play. She will use a technique that has been reproduced in all her "Originelles" collection: a sculpture built on a very fine structure, to emphasize the elevation of the characters, liberated from the traditional aesthetic models.

RDV FRANCAIS Events
(As always, French will be spoken at these events. It need not be perfect, but your best attempt is appreciated. This also applies to invited guests. Total beginners should seek formal classes elsewhere before attending group events. This group is designed for those with prior French experience who want the opportunity to converse in French with others. However, if you have had even a few years of high school French classes, that should be enough to get you started conversing, so if that is the case, go ahead and RSVP "Yes"! ) Additional information about the events and venues as well as a means to RSVP can be viewed at http://www.meetup.com/RDV-FRANCAIS/.
